I enjoyed a delicious coffee at the new Mecca Gourmet in Aveley last week. It is a coffee shop, pizza place and cafe that is open early until late 7days a week. The shop is beautifully fitted out, the service was great and the cakes look lovely- must try next time I visit! They do a Detox Breakfast that looks divine- it has crispy bacon, chorizo, roasted potato, garlic, onion, poached egg, avocado and salsa. Yum! Mecca Gourmet is situated at the shops on Egerton Drive, Aveley

During the decade leading up to 2011, Ellenbrook had the largest population growth of anywhere in WA.

In 1992 an area was rezoned from rural to urban deferred to allow for residential development and in 1994 the first bulldozers moved in to create at the time the largest new town project in Australia. 20 years on Ellenbrook has nearly 30,000 residents in about 8000 completed homes.

The villages;
1995 -Woodlake Village estate launched
1997 – The Bridges launched
1999 – Coolamon launched
2000 – Morgan Fields launched
2003 – Charlotte’s Vineyard launched
2006 – Malvern Springs launched
2011 – Lexia launched
2013 – Annie’s Landing launched

The original objectives for the area were to provide affordable housing, a harmonious social environment and ready or ‘walk-able’ access to community facilities. Thus villages were designed with the intention of trying to return to traditional neighborhood design principles. Although this has been successful with Ellenbrook winning 30 industry awards, there is some current criticism that more rapid transit services are required in order for it to remain sustainable. Developers are currently looking into ways of partnering Government with the private sector to make rapid transport to work centers more likely.

Swan Valley Realty attended the Local and General Markets on Saturday and gave out free yummy snow cones to visitors. There was a smaller turn out for these markets compared to the one in September. This was primarily due to the Swan Valley Anglican Community School’s Fun Day. Never the less my two beautiful helpers and I enjoyed the day once again.

Northlink WA, also known as the Perth Darwin National Highway is on track with its planning. The project development phase of the $1.12 billion highway is expected to be finished in August 2015, highway construction is expected to start in late 2016 and be finished in 2019.

Although some parts of the highway will come as close to 20-30m to some Ellenbrook homes this has been stated as being similar to many other highways around Perth and noise monitoring has started at some sites.

A spokeswoman for Main Roads said noise modelling was required but could not be finalised with certainty until the final road geometry was completed. Future noise modelling may indicate that noise attenuation is required to ensure compliance with the noise level limits of the Western Australian Planning Commission road and rail noise policy. I took my little monsters to Halloween at the Marshalls on Friday night in Aveley and was so impressed with the effort the Marshalls went to to put on a great Halloween event for the community. It is getting so popular we had to wait in a line to go through the haunted tunnel. And scary! My daughter not only screamed but also cried!! For more photos of the night go to their Facebook page at Halloween at the Marshalls.

A relocation program is being considered by developers and the government for the abundant kangaroos in the area. Department of Parks and Wildlife said between 150 and 200 kangaroos could be relocated to Gorrie State Forrest block, just south of Chidlow and The Lakes. Culling is not being considered at this stage. Instead the kangaroos will be tranquilized and transported about 50km away.

The wildlife population faces competing with the 4700 eventual homes and two town centres that will be built by Stockland as part of Vale. Stockland say they will retain more than 26 per cent of the site for bushland and wetland conservation and reserves that will be accessible as public open space.

New laws have been introduced that allow councils through council resolution rather than local law to determine where dogs can exercise and where they need to be kept on a leash at all times.

As such the City of Swan has flagged the following parks as proposed parks where dogs must be kept on a leash at all times;

In Aveley
Central Park, Egerton
Egerton Park, Wexcombe Way

In Ellenbrook
Lake Fresca, Ponte Veccio Boulevard
Moulton Wetlands and Track, Brookmount Drive,
Mornington Park, Mornington Parkway
Charlie Gregorani Memorial Reserve, Library Avenue
Brook Park, Paperback Close
Woodlake Park, Waterview Grove

and Sandown Park in Sandown Circle, Henley Brook

Ellenbrook Resident, Kara Ringland welcomes the stricter rules. She volunteers for Ellenbrook Pet Finders and hears about five or six instances every week where pets or owners are attacked or intimidated by dogs. She hopes the stricter rules will help fine people who don’t care about the safety of others by letting their dogs roam free.

This is one of our new listings at 4 O’Halloran Street, Ellenbrook. It was completed in May this year and sits in a prime position on the Ellenbrook/The Vines boarder. It is an extremely appealing well designed house that utilizes the compact low maintenance block well with ample indoor living space and also enough room for relaxing or entertaining in the backyard.

Move straight in and enjoy the design and comfort of all the latest fittings and fixtures. My favourite feature is the Essa Stone island bench top with breakfast bar in White Truffle. The ensuite and main bathroom vanity also have Essa Stone tops.

For further information or for a private viewing feel free to give me a call on 0438 080 921. Alternatively check Reiwa or Realestate.com.au for home open time this Sunday

Congratulations to Aveley Primary School for being one of six entrants to win a place in The State Final of Wakakirri – Australia’s largest performing arts event for primary schools.

The schools performance of The Very Hungry Caterpillar won the Wakakirri Best Comedy Story Award and a music award.

48 students practiced for two months every Tuesday after school for 2 hours. All their hard work paid off and teacher Chris Spencer says there has been a huge interest in performing at the school and that the kids that preformed this year will have a better idea next year and can help others so it creates a momentum.

The Aveley Avengers club currently offers Auskick and Footy Fundamentals programs to more than 100 youngsters aged between two and nine. Next year the club will expand its involvement in the Swan Districts football competition with a junior boys and girls team. This year 46 of the juniors got the chance to play halftime during the final between Fremantle Dockers and Port Adelaide.

Aveley Avengers vice-president Natasha Cheung said the funding from the WA property developers will have a huge impact. She said it will help lift the profile of the club and allow them to keep expanding. Some of the money will go towards purchasing a range of equipment and jumpers for the 2015 season.

A local Aveley family really get into the spirit of things at Halloween (pardon the pun!)

And they bravely invite every-one to join them. An exert from their facebook page reads;

“Join the Marshalls with their family and friends for a fun Spooktacular evening consisting of Spooky Haunted House, Boiling Cauldron Ball Pit, Pass the Pumpkin, Sausage Sizzle and drinks served right out of a Graveyard! Oct 31st Yearly. Games and Haunted House are for 10yrs and under. Trick or Treat!

We are located at Dryden Crescent, Aveley. Trick or treating starts at 5:30pm as does the games and BBQ until dark on the 31st of October. The haunted house will run from 5:30pm to 9pm.

This year one of our rooms is designed for our under 4’s which can be accessed on the side that doesn’t have any of the scary’s! The child age group for the haunted house is aimed at children from 5yrs to 12yrs Parents can go in with their children if they want to. No child will be permitted in the haunted house unless a parent or guardian is here on the night. Feel free to ask any questions.”

What a fantastic community event. I will be taking my two monsters to enjoy the fun. My understanding is that a $10 entry fee is charged and these proceeds go to charity. The Marshalls really do go all out with the decorations. See photos from their website for proof…

For more information search Halloween with the Marshalls on Facebook.
