Budding netballers in Aveley can now play under their suburb name. The Aveley Netball Club will play in the Swan Districts Netball Association this season. They have already been holding preseason fitness training on Fridays.

The club is already looking strong with 130 players registered so far, but more players of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Head coach Karen Rigg stated in The Ellenbrook Advocate (Wednesday 25th March) that she aims for Aveley Netball Club to be a club that offers development for all players, while also providing a stepping stone for those who go on to play at a higher level.

Round one of the 2015 season starts on May 2. For more information contact info@aveleynetball.com or call Karen on 0499 333 088.

I enjoyed a delicious coffee at the new Mecca Gourmet in Aveley last week. It is a coffee shop, pizza place and cafe that is open early until late 7days a week. The shop is beautifully fitted out, the service was great and the cakes look lovely- must try next time I visit! They do a Detox Breakfast that looks divine- it has crispy bacon, chorizo, roasted potato, garlic, onion, poached egg, avocado and salsa. Yum! Mecca Gourmet is situated at the shops on Egerton Drive, Aveley

Who wants to age gracefully? Not a bunch of Ellenbrook residents who have formed a group called Classy Tarts. The group consists of women over 50 who want to inject a bit of fun and friendship into their lives. They are part of the Red Hat Society that was established in 1998 in the United States and the group’s philosophy is based on a Jenny Joseph’s poem – the opening lines of which read, “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn’t go and doesn’t suit me”.

Of course when the group meet for their outings they attend in purple outfits and red hats. Sheryl Olsen who has lived in Ellenbrook for ten years said in that time she hardly made any friends. Now though the group has been a great network for her to meet people.

Sounds like wonderful fun! For more details about Ellenbrook Classy Tarts, call Ms Olsen on 9297 1050
